Pay for quality
The one thing that you should also always do when buying a guitar is go for quality its no good trading up each time, because by the time you have finished you could have bought that quality guitar
Ask yourself does this guitar feel good? Does it sound good?
Take your time, play a lot of guitars, try out your friends guitars. Visit guitar shops and what try out every guitar you find there.
Enlist the help of a musician friend who can go around with you and demonstrate the different guitars for you.
Study what the different parts of the guitar are i.e. the body, a sound hole, the strings, the bridge, the neck, the nut, and the headstock.
Study the difference between the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar.
Research the major guitar brands and models.
Verify warranty and service
A good guitar is like a good friend it should last a lifetime
Always ask to see the warranty card and owners manual. Expect to get a lifetime warranty some of the guitars made in the 1930s are still going strong and outlived their original owners. If a manufacturer only guarantees workmanship for five or 10 years they probably expect problems to occur after the warranty.
Ask about the manufacturer’s reputation for service and parts availability, if you should have a problem with your instrument, you'll want to fix quickly and correctly.
